Probably the most frequently asked question is: Q: How did you start with this hobby? A: I started collecting skulls and skeletons when I was about 10. I got my first
skulls and some other curiosities like seashells and gemstones from my aunt.
After that, my interest in skulls and skeletons grew over the years and I
expanded my collection once in a while. When I turned 17 I was given a skeleton
preparation course by my parents. After this course I had not done much of
cleaning skulls or skeletons myself. Until I came in contact with someone who
built skeletons himself. He taught me a lot about how to clean skeletons. From
then on I started to clean and build skeletons myself. By April 2020 I had
built my first skeleton a red fox. Since then I have built about 8 more
skeletons and my skills have improved a lot (10-2021).
The first skeleton I have ever builded. A Red fox (Vulpes vulpes) in a hunting/jumping pose.
Q: How do I obtain the animals I work on? A: The animals I work with come from vets, breeders, animal shelters, taxidermists and pet shops. I do not order the killing of animals and/or allow people to hunt animals for our work
Q: how do I clean the skulls and skeletons? A: The way I clean the skulls and skeletons is mainly maceration. This, in my opinion and that of many others expert, the best way to clean skulls and skeletons. Maceration is using bacteria and hot water (30-40 degrees Celsius) to decay the flesh and tendons of animals. No chemicals are used during the maceration process. After cleaning the skulls and skeletons I degrease them with heated diluted ammonia or Biotex (washing middle with enzymes) and whiten them using hydrogen peroxide.
Q: Do I sell the skeletons and or skulls I build/clean? A: I sell some of the skulls and skeletons I clean/build. I (almost) only sell in the European Union due to different laws that make it difficult to ship my work worldwide. If you want to know what is currently for sale, please send a email through the contact page. (For sale page coming soon)

Q: Can I have a animal/pet commissioned into a skeleton at DUTCH SKELETOLOGY? A: This depends on the animal/pet that you want to have commissioned. Some animals are easier to build into a skeleton than others. At the moment I only accept birds and mammals as commissions. You can always contact us for more information.
